Sydney to Alice Springs

Day 1 Meet at 1.45pm, platform 1 at Sydney Central Station outside Countrylink Office and then board the Indian Pacific train for your overnight adventure to Broken Hill. Enjoy the changing landscapes as you leave the mountainous coastal regions of the Great Dividing Range, to the flat desolate outback. A beautiful sunrise to be seen near the Menindee Lakes. Meet the tour leader in Broken Hill.

Days 2-4 Visit the Royal Flying Doctor base at Broken Hill and check out the many artistic wonders of this remote mining town. A few hours down the road, we arrive at an outback sheep station, meet up with a few old mates and maybe even shear a sheep.

Meander through the Flinders Ranges to Iga Warta Aboriginal community (Adnyamathanha) where we spend two nights around their campfire, enjoying some indigenous songs and storytelling.

Optional cultural activities at own expense includes music sticks and boomerang making, bush tucker plant walk, hunting and paintings.

Days 5-7 Head north up the Oodnadatta Track, following the route of the "Old Ghan" and passing the Dingo Fence, to the salt pan of Lake Eyre. After a swim in the thermal springs, we stop for beer in the remote pub at William Creek (population 2). We then continue via the Moon Plain to Coober Pedy, the world’s opal capital, where we will visit some of its unique underground dwellings and mines.

Our adventure continues up the Stuart hwy across the Northern Territory border to arrive at Uluru ( Ayers Rock ) for sunset. See if you can spot a kangaroo on the way!

Days 8-10 Up early for sunrise, we take a leisurely walk around the base of Uluru ( Ayers Rock ) and there’s an opportunity to climb if desired.

Visit the Aboriginal Cultural Centre and then there’s time to relax and watch the dramatic colour changes of Uluru ( Ayers Rock ) as the sun sets.

We will take a walk through the ”Valley of the Winds” at Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) then drive to Lilla Aboriginal community for camping in the secluded foothills of the George Gill Range. Hike through the dramatic Kings Canyon and take a dip in the outback “Garden of Eden”.

A scenic helicopter flight from Kings Creek Station puts the outback desert landscape into perspective. Our adventure concludes upon arrival in Alice Springs.
